Don't Be Discouraged When Your Round Isn't Going the Greatest
It was Monday June 6th, 2011 ladies league night, a fair weather day and I wasn’t having a particularly good round. No matter, it was the start of the season and I was coming back after missing the 2010 season with a badly broken wrist that required metal surgical pins to repair it. I didn’t have great hopes realizing this season was going to be a work in progress as I worked hard to get my pre-injury game back.
I stepped up to the White nine tee block with a view to finishing my round with a good shot. What appears to be a simple shot onto a 96 yard par 3, can cause apprehension as you notice the sand trap wrapping around half of the green at the front and left side of the hole and realize if you hit the ball too long, it drops down at about a 65 degree angle down a hill. The pin was sitting prettily at the front of the green making the shot require a bit of a shorter distance. I decided on my Pitching wedge for this distance, kept my head still and down and didn’t look up until the shot was complete. I couldn’t feel the ball leave my club face, which for me is always a sign of a good shot. It popped into the air to a beautiful high arcing shot just slightly left of the pin, it dropped on the green and starting rolling painfully slowly toward the pin. My thought was, wow for sure this will be a birdie hole. Much to my friend Diana and my surprise, the ball suddenly disappeared. We both starting shouting and flapping our arms.
I emailed the golf pro I have worked with for years to tell him that my second Ace had just taken place and to order my trophy to commemorate this event. Merryhill was good enough to allow us to use their course logo and it is proudly etched into that trophy. So don’t be discouraged when your round isn’t going the greatest. It could turn out to be the best round of your year, it was for me, so far.
